There are as many reasons to travel as there are travellers. But since 1989, U of T has offered alumni an especially compelling one: the opportunity to reconnect with former classmates while visiting some of the world’s most intriguing destinations.
Each year, the University of Toronto Alumni Travel Program offers about 25 tours to such perennial hot spots as Italy and Greece, as well as more exotic locales, such as Russia, China and Morocco. In the past year, the program included a cruise to Antarctica and an African safari.
About 2,000 U of T alumni and friends have participated in the program since its inception, with some taking a different trip each year, says travel manager Daphne Tao. “Alumni tell us they appreciate travelling with like-minded individuals, and enjoy the educational component of the tours.”
U of T alumni (and Amazon travellers) John and Susanne Wilson said one of their reasons for taking the Amazon trip was the likelihood of meeting congenial companions. “It certainly met our expectations,” says John.
