Adaptive Technology Resource Centre at Robarts Library remembers friend and colleague Read More

Last July, Jon Kameoka, a staff member at the Adaptive Technology Resource Centre (ATRC) at Robarts Library, was killed by a bus near Hoskin Avenue and St. George Street. In his memory, friends, family and staff members at ATRC established the Jon Kameoka Memorial Fund, and have raised more than $10,000. At ATRC, Kameoka provided network support and helped with the installation and maintenance of adaptive-technology hardware and software to assist students with disabilities. The memorial fund will be used to further develop a computer-input system for those with physical disabilities. It’s a project Kameoka was working on just before his death at age 38.

After surgery to remove a brain tumour when he was 18, Kameoka was left with poor balance and speech difficulties. His friends and colleagues have developed a Web site to share their memories of a man who refused to let life’s adversities define him. Visit atrc.utoronto.ca.
