Trinity Provost Wins Literary Award

Prof. Margaret MacMillan, provost of Trinity College, has won this year’s Governor General’s Literary Award for non-fiction for Paris 1919: Six Months that Changed the World (Random House, 2002). The book brings to life the personalities, ideals and prejudices of the men who helped shape world peace at the end of the First World War. MacMillan (BA 1966 TRIN) has also written The Uneasy Century: International Relations 1900-1990 (1996) and Women of the Raj (1988), among other books.

Prof. Eckhard Meinrenken of mathematics has won U of T’s McLean Award, a $100,000 prize given annually for outstanding basic research. His work in symplectic geometry – a field that tries to discern the geometry of spaces – straddles the disciplines of math and physics.
